Nation’s foreclosures: San Joaquin is at No. 1, Merced is 2nd, Stanislaus 3rd
The Northern San Joaquin Valley retained its status as America’s foreclosure capital during June.
San Joaquin County ranked No. 1, Merced County No. 2 and Stanislaus County No. 3 for foreclosure filings last month.
RealtyTrac, which released the rankings today, compared the counties with 230 metropolitan areas across the country. The foreclosure statistics aren’t pretty:
In San Joaquin, one of every 72 households received a foreclosure filing during June, which was nearly seven times higher than the national average.
Merced wasn’t much better, with foreclosure filings for one of every 77 households. In Stanislaus, it was one in 86 households.
In California, one of 192 households received foreclosure filings last month. For the United States as a whole, one in every 501 households received them.
Foreclosure filings include notices of default (the first step in the foreclosure process), notices of trustee sale and the final foreclosure sale on the county courthouse steps.
Nationwide and statewide, foreclosure filings declined a bit in June compared with May. But they rose throughout the Northern San Joaquin Valley.
Here are the specifics for June from RealtyTrac:
San Joaquin — 3,119 filings, up 5 percent from May. That included 1,129 homes lost to foreclosure.
Merced — 1,056 filings, up 8 percent, including 394 foreclosures.
Stanislaus — 1,993 filings, up 1 percent, including 830 foreclosures.
Tuolumne County — 45 filings, up 45 percent, including eight foreclosures.
California — 68,666 filings, down 5 percent, including 20,624 foreclosures.
